Meet Zeke
Age: 3
Helping Hand: Ninja Turtle
Ezekial, also known as Zeke, is our youngest Helping Hand recipient to date, receiving his prosthetic hand at the age of just 3 years old. Zeke’s hand is an elbow powered prosthetic and with the simple bend of his elbow he is able to control the fingers of the device.
Zeke and his family traveled from Mesa to the MORE Foundation laboratory in North Phoenix on Halloween in 2018. Dressed as Mikey from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles it was clear that he was ready for trick-or-treating that night. The only thing he needed was his custom-made Ninja Turtle inspired helping hand to complete his look. For the first time, he was able to trick-or-treat with both hands, one holding the bucket and the other grabbing his candy.
Born without his right hand, Zeke was only able to draw, hold on to a bike or throw with his left hand. Since receiving his Helping Hand, Zeke is now able to hold onto objects with his affected hand more easily and have better balance on his bike.
“Seeing the joy and excitement on Zeke’s face when he saw his new helping hand that resembled Mikey’s watching him use it for the first time is why we do what we do. The impact of these helping hands are limitless, and it was special to see the joy it brought to such a young child.” – Dr. Marc Jacofsky, Executive Director of MORE Foundation.
